June 13, 2008 (SAN DIEGO, CA): – The Society of Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) announced today that Joseph P. Hughes, RVT, RVS, FSVU, et al Navix Diagnostix, Inc., Taunton, MA and Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY., has been awarded the Oral Clinical Presentation Award for the presentation on "Risk Focused Screenings for Vascular Disease: One University Hospital's Experience". Each year, several papers are presented at the annual conference, this year having been held in San Diego, CA. Navix' risk focused screenings have identified over 25% of program participants with some form of peripheral arterial disease warranting further follow-up by a physician. The 30 minute screening is a painless non-invasive screening for carotid artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral arterial disease and can save the life of an at-risk individual. Joseph P. Hughes, Assistant Vice President for Clinical Services at Navix noted "by screening an 'at-risk' population, we are more likely to find individuals in need of treatment than in some other screening programs offered nationwide." Some programs simply take all comers, regardless of age or risk factors, often resulting in far less than 5% of individuals in need of further follup up care.

Mike Nussbaum, Regional Sale Manager for Navix commented, "It was clear when we first met with the senior leadership at Chestnut Hill Hospital that they saw value, both in terms of economic and clinical benefits by outsourcing to Navix. September 10, 2007 (AUNTMINNIE.COM): – A recent auntminnie.com article comments on the value of ultrasound screening programs. The article entitled “Screening opportunities boost ultrasound prospects” on September 10th, 2007 by Erik Ridley states that “Increased interest in screening examinations and early identification of disease offer an opportunity for expanded use of ultrasound," according to Dr. Edward Bluth of Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans. In recent years, increasing attention has been paid by the lay press on healthcare issues and, in particular, the value of early disease identification and the role of screening, Bluth said. As a result, a better-informed public has been demanding greater participation in their healthcare decisions, and requesting screening examinations for early identification of disease. Another trend looming over the next year or two is the public's understanding of the increasing amount of radiation exposure they're facing from radiographic screening examinations, he said. The role of ultrasound as a safe screening tool is just now being appreciated in the press. Possible screening tests with ultrasound currently include AAA screening, carotid stenosis screening, and ankle-brachial index (ABI) for peripheral vascular disease, Bluth said.

In an analysis of two VEDI TM programs deployed in May of this year, Navix has found that these risk-focused, routine screenings have identified over 25% of program participants with some form of peripheral arterial disease warranting further follow-up by a physician. The 20 minute screening is a painless non-invasive screening for carotid artery disease, abdominal aorta aneurysm and peripheral arterial disease and can save the life of an at-risk individual. Bob Kane, Sr. Vice President of Clinical Services for Navix noted “by screening an ‘at-risk’ population, we are more likely to find individuals in need of treatment than in some other screening programs offered nationwide. Some programs simply take all comers, regardless of age and/or risk factors, often resulting in far less than 5% of individuals in need of further follow up care. Programs that do not yield strong results are seldom repeated. Navix clients implementing the VEDI TM program have seen significant disease that would otherwise have gone undetected in their community, and plan to provide screening as an ongoing part of their service.”

Our recent deployment of the Vascular Early Detection Initiative (VEDI TM), a routine risk-focused screening program is a consumer-based outreach program designed to further assist our clients in the identification and diagnosis of at-risk individuals.” Clients implementing the VEDI TM program have seen significant disease that would otherwise have gone undetected in their community, and plan to provide screening as an ongoing part of their service.”
