Navix Mission:

Building healthcare partnerships dedicated to developing clinically excellent heart and vascular programs that help practitioners detect and diagnose cardiovascular disease.

Navix Offers a Web-based Solution for Ultrasound Image Storage, Reporting & Workflow through a New Partnership with Core Sound Imaging, Inc.

May 6, 2013 (Taunton, MA) - Navix, a diagnostic service provider that specializes in the development of non-invasive cardiovascular lab programs for hospitals, access centers and physician practices, today announced a partnership with Core Sound Imaging, Inc., a leading provider of web-based Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS) solutions. Navix will offer Studycast, a Core Sound Imaging web-based application, as an optional add-on service to their non-invasive cardiovascular lab program to improve the physician interpretation process with a powerful solution for image storage, reporting and workflow for ultrasound.

Studycast is a cloud-based application that allows ultrasound images to be viewed anytime, anywhere through a standard web browser enabling physicians to interpret and process patient exams quickly and efficiently. Physicians can sign off on ultrasound exams without having to be in the office. Once approved, final reports are routed to the referring physician, EMR/EHR systems, billing departments, or other client-specified destinations.

"Within our client base there is a growing need for flexible image and reporting tools that are easy to integrate and deploy with other technologies," said Cheryl Ford, Navix's President and CEO. "We chose Studycast for its robust features, flexibility in customization and integration, and the ease of implementation, which together make it possible for our clients to more quickly realize the benefits of cost-savings gained through operational efficiencies."

Navix delivers a wide range of diagnostic services including vascular ultrasound, echocardiography, general ultrasound, obstetrics/gynecology ultrasound, nuclear medicine and Holter monitoring. Navix's lab program includes comprehensive testing through the use of credentialed technologists, extensive clinical protocols and diagnostic criteria, advanced technology in 3D imaging, lab accreditation, technologist and physician training, marketing services and equipment, and through Studycast, web-based reporting and image storage.

Studycast's SmartWorksheets offer exam-specific tools to effectively and efficiently complete an interpretation. A comprehensive workflow solution, Studycast provides support beginning when the ultrasound exam leaves the ultrasound machine and ending when the final report has reached the intended recipients.

"It was important to find a solution that supported Navix's clinical protocols. The SmartWorksheets included in Studycast are consistent with our exam protocols which make exam processing much easier for our clinicians," said Robert Kane, SVP of Clinical Services and Business Development.

There are two components that are part of the Studycast process — CoreConnect and CoreWeb. CoreConnect is the gateway product that resides on a computer at the client's local facility. CoreConnect receives the exam from the ultrasound machine, and then transmits the images and study data to CoreWeb. CoreWeb is the web application that is used to view study images, Studycast SmartWorksheets and final reports.

Patient Data Security
Core Sound Imaging deploys Studycast through a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model. Despite increasing regulatory and security challenges, an emerging trend towards the adoption of cloud-based software is starting to take hold in healthcare. Healthcare organizations are realizing not only the economic benefits but the opportunity to improve patient care as a result of implementing cloud computing in many parts of their organization. Navix's partnership with Core Sound Imaging offers a cost-effective option for physicians and administrators seeking to reduce costs, increase productivity and enhance patient care.

While scrutiny on compliance with Patient Privacy Rights continues to escalate, cloud-based software is gaining momentum in healthcare. In July 2012, research firm Markets and Markets reported that the cloud computing market in the health care sector is expected to grow to $5.4 billion by 2017.

"It is important for healthcare organizations to work with companies who provide solutions that meet HIPAA requirements and understand the governing laws of Patient Privacy Rights," said Mark Smith, President of Core Sound Imaging. "Not only does Studycast assist facilities in meeting HIPAA requirements but also Core Sound Imaging is ISO13485:2003 certified."

From nearly any ultrasound machine, Studycast can acquire measurement data and populate this data in the online SmartWorksheets. While many applications require technical skills that are not typically available in the health care sector, Navix and Core Sound Imaging make it easy for healthcare organizations to realize the operational benefits that many other businesses have already achieved with cloud computing.

July 25, 2011 (HYANNIS, MA) - Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC) has recently announced the expansion of its partnership with Navix to sponsor stroke and vascular screening events In the Upper Cape Area. Falmouth Hospital will offer Navix' stroke and vascular screening programs at community locations throughout Upper Cape Cod including Bourne, Falmouth, Mashpee and Sandwich.

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA, a CCHC Hospital, has been sponsoring Navix stroke and vascular screening events in Hyannis, Brewster, and Harwich locations. "Expanding Navix' stroke & vascular screening program to communities served by Falmouth Hospital was an easy decision," said Keith Ritchie, VP of Physician Recruiting for CCHC. "This program has been extremely successful in helping us reach at-risk individuals who have been screened and identified to have some type of vascular disease without the presence of symptoms."

Since July 2010, together CCH and Navix, together, have screened more than 500 individuals. "I registered for a screening because my brother was screened and found to have vascular disease without any symptoms," said a Cape Cod woman. "Cape Cod Hospital saved his life!"

A seemingly healthy man in his 70s attended a CCHC-sponsored stroke and vascular screening event last year. Despite having no symptoms, he was found to have a life threatening Aortic Abdominal Aneurysm. He was surgically treated shortly afterwards and is recovering very well.

An estimated 20 to 30 million American are at risk for various vascular diseases, including stroke, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), carotid artery disease and aortic aneurysms. According to the Society for Vascular Surgery & American College of Cardiology, stroke remains the third leading cause of death in the U.S, and 4 out of 5 people have no apparent symptoms or warning prior to a stroke. Thousands die each year from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. At least 95% of these can be successfully treated if detected prior to rupture. And, estimates are as high as 1/3 of older Americans have some form of peripheral arterial disease (PAD).

Navix' stroke & vascular screening program partnership with CCH furthers its mission to create healthcare partnerships dedicated to cardiovascular program expansion through clinical excellence and the early detection and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. This program was developed to encourage individuals with certain risk factors to be screened for vascular disease. Stroke and vascular screenings specifically target individuals who are 50 years old or over, have smoked during their life, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or are diabetic as well as those with a family history of cardiovascular disease.

More than 10% required a complete diagnostic evaluation while several participants were identified with life threatening conditions such as a large abdominal aortic aneurysm or severe carotid stenosis. In these severe-finding cases, the individuals were successfully treated with surgery or other life-saving intervention.

February 17, 2011 (TORONTO, CA) - Navix has provided key clinical development expertise to The Medipattern Corporation ("Medipattern") (TSX-V: MKI), a pioneer in the development of medical imaging software solutions that help medical practitioners to better understand lesions and critical anatomy. Medipattern has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its Visualize:Vascular product. Visualize:Vascular is designed to quantify image data; segmenting and measuring regions of interest in vessels. Visualize can help a physician assess vascular disease using ultrasound imaging readily available in most cardiology, vascular radiology and vascular surgery practices today. The product is now available for sale in the United States. First shipments are anticipated in the second quarter of this calendar year.

"Visualize:Vascular allows me to see the structure of the open space in the artery, the residual lumen, which is available for blood flow to the brain. This can be seen in both two and three dimensions which enable us to pinpoint the exact area of critical narrowing in the blood vessel. The beauty of this technology is that it is totally non invasive and can serve as an adjunct to standard duplex ultrasound. Traditionally, we use Doppler to measure the velocities of blood flow in the vessel. From this data we estimate the degree of narrowing to determine if there is significant disease. Visualize affords us the ability to measure the lumen directly.

Clinically this is a tremendous asset for us and will ultimately lead to improved patient care," commented Francis J. Porreca, MD, FACS, RPVI, Director of Vascular Surgery, Weiler Division of Montefiore, The University Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. "We have had the opportunity to work with Medipattern over the past few years as they developed Visualize. We have an ongoing data base that we are using to track ultrasound and visualize images with the use of Visualize. I believe Visualize has the potential to revolutionize the way we look at ultrasound which will have a positive impact on patient management. We look forward to clinical use where we can document the value of this new and exciting technology."

"Visualize:Vascular brings a whole new look and feel to vascular ultrasound: color 3D reconstruction of specific regions of interest in vessels. Vascular ultrasound is one of the largest and higher growth market segments for ultrasound imaging today. NAVIX specializes in vascular laboratory services. We work closely with vascular labs to increase use of quality standards and protocols," commented Robert Kane, Senior Vice President of Clinical Services, Navix Diagnostix, Inc. "We saw that Medipattern's technology had the power to let us see inside vessels in an ultrasound setting. We became quite enthusiastic about the potential and joined Medipattern in collecting data for them to develop Visualize. Medipattern's imaging algorithm expertise; diligence and dedication have enabled them to bring this product to market. The preliminary response from the physicians that we regularly work with is very enthusiastic and we are committed to seeing this product roll out through our NAVIX sites and expect it to be received well by all vascular labs, cardiology, radiology and surgical practices performing vascular ultrasound."

"Visualize:Vascular is based on the Cadenza algorithm platform. To create Visualize, we have both expanded our platform by leveraging it from breast imaging to vascular imaging; and simplified our platform from computer aided detection (CAD) as we do in breast imaging to 3D reconstruction of segmented regions of interest. This allows us to focus on visualization which enables our customers to get a better mental picture of the subject and from this make a detailed analysis," commented Jeff Collins, President and CEO of The Medipattern Corporation. "We wish to thank all of our data collection partners. Their belief in us and direction has been inspirational to us. Visualize:Vascular will be deployed through our data collection sites in a limited roll out followed by sales to key partners and then released for general sales. First shipments are expected next quarter."
