Job Title: Echocardiographer, Cardiac Sonographer, Registered RDCS/RCS
Job Location(s): Central New York & Upstate New York Region
The Cardiac Sonographer job requires the sonographer to utilize color-flow duplex ultrasound to produce ultrasound images and related data, which is used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The Cardiac Sonographer is also responsible for the performance of the following duties.
- Set up, operate, maintain, and clean equipment in accordance with NAVIX and manufacturer guidelines. Report any equipment difficulties or failures as outline in the NAVIX Employee Manual.
- Frequently move and adjust testing equipment for testing purposes to optimize results.
- Prepare patient for examination, including, but not limited to, explaining the examination to the patient, having the patient change clothing, adjusting examination table, chairs, and other equipment and furnishings as necessary to assure optimal results.
- Select the proper transducer, both type and frequency for the examination being performed.
- Obtain, review, and retrieve pertinent patient history, physical exam, and supporting clinical data to facilitate the physician in making the diagnosis.
- Perform diagnostic cardiac procedures by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data in accordance with Navix and/or site protocols. Diagnostic cardiac procedures include, but may not be limited to, transthoracic echoes, strain testing, transesophageal echo (control operation), contrast administration, and other testing required that falls within the cardiac sonographers’ scope of practice.
- Determines priority for requested inpatient and/or outpatient studies and revises schedules as needed to perform emergency studies in agreement with the NAVIX and client policies.
- Recognizes important and life-threatening abnormalities during testing and informs appropriate medical staff before releasing the patient based on physician instructions.
- Apply critical thinking skills in all clinical and operational situations.
- Ensure patient and employee safety by following company policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Apply appropriate ergonomic principles in all situations.
- Provide the interpreting physician with an oral or written preliminary summary of technical findings at the discretion of the interpreting physician.
- Thoroughly complete and submit all necessary documentation, including, but not limited to, logs, billing requisitions, physician orders, and patient authorizations in an accurate and timely manner, to assure appropriate billing as directed by NAVIX.
- Maintain supplies for testing sites or keep appropriate materials if in a mobile setting.
- Report all incidents as outlined in the NAVIX Employee Manual.
- Communicate with manager on a regular basis regarding work schedules.
- Attend yearly Compliance training as per company policy.
- Comply with all corporate policies including environmental Health and Safety regulations.
- Maintain a valid credential through participation in on-going training to ensure job competency.
- Comply with all accreditation, credentialing, and regulatory requirements of the job.
- Cooperate with all NAVIX clients, their employees, patients, and patients’ families and companions, and all NAVIX employees to assure proper patient care and maintenance of appropriate working relationships.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 2 years in Echocardiography preferred.
- A current, recognized credential in Echocardiography; see accreditation standards for recognized credentials.
- If newly graduated or hired from outside of the United State without an accrediting body-recognized credential in the primary specialty to be performed, the employee must procure a recognized credential within one (1) year.
- Compliance with and maintenance of applicable State licensure when necessary.
- Annual BLS certification.
- Some computer knowledge.
- Ability to work independently. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills.
- Must be a team player.
- Graduation from a CAAHEP Accredited program in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology profession pathways, or,
- An equivalent degree, diploma or certification if educated outside of the United States. Equivalent degrees, diplomas, or certifications from outside of the United States include, but are not limited to, Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (DMU), Diploma in Medical Ultrasound Diagnosis (DMUD), post-graduate training from a CASE-accredited program in the UK, an ASAR-accredited course in Australia and New Zealand.
- High school diploma, if trained on the job and appropriately credentialed.
